Mission & Values
Our purpose is for those affected by trauma, and those who support them, Hagar us an expert in care and recovery. When healing happens the cycle of trauma stops. We stay focused on the individual. And we work towards communities free and healed from the trauma of slavery, trafficking and abuse.
Communities free and healed from the trauma of slavery, trafficking and abuse
Hagar is a global organization, registered in Switzerland, that operates commercial and non-profit entities and engages in private and public sector partnerships in pursuit of its mission to restore women and children who suffer extreme human rights abuse to life in all its fullness. It has been built on Christian principles and operates like many International development agencies through a federated governance model. It has programs in Cambodia, Afghanistan and Vietnam and support offices in the US, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Hong Kong.
Hagar is responsive to the most severe injustice and alienation among individual women and children. Hagar provides services without any discrimination on the basis of religious beliefs, race, gender, culture, social position, or nationality.
Hagar is tenacious – whatever it takes for as long as it takes – in recognition of the deep wounding of severe abuse. Through its social programs, commercial businesses, and partnerships, Hagar ensures high quality services in health care, legal support, psychosocial support, education, family services, training and employment.
Hagar is focused on the individual and committed to real life giving relationships in nurturing each one to their full potential. Hagar identifies the individual needs and potential of each survivor and nurtures, through relationships, their journey towards resilience and dignity.
Hagar’s Core Values emerge from our founding stories of following Jesus’ example in restoring life to the abused, rejected and exploited. Hagar commits to four foundational values, which we seek to embed in out organizational culture and practice.
Respect: We believe in the right of all people to be heard and treated with respect and dignity.
Integrity: We commit to act ethically and honestly, striving to do the right thing at all times and in all circumstances.
Compassion: We want compassion, kindness and courage to be evident in our attitude, communication and practice.
Excellence: We pursue high standards, listening and learning from those we serve, enabling us to continuously improve their journey to wholeness.
Journey to Wholeness
We believe that with the right supports and capabilities, people can recover and take the lead in their own journey to wholeness
