Charlotte, NC: The Hagar USA Board of Directors is delighted to announce the appointment of Mike Nowlin as the new Executive Director of Hagar USA. Nowlin brings a wealth of sector expertise and experience to the role after serving as Executive Director, Hagar Cambodia since the beginning of 2016. He has two decades’ experience in child and family protection including three years in senior leadership roles with Hagar Cambodia, based in Phnom Penh.
“With a focus on being a member of Hagar’s global leadership team, Mike’s program experience greatly benefits the US support office efforts to educate, advocate and secure funds to sustain and expand the work of Hagar in Cambodia, Afghanistan and Vietnam,” said Hagar USA Board Chair, Daniel Stoltzfus. “It is a privilege to have a leader of his passion, expertise and demonstrated service to the abused, marginalized and exploited leading our vital support efforts.”
Mike brings to the new US role his extensive networks in the non-profit sector, executive experience leading more than 100 staff across Hagar’s complex Cambodian operations, as well as a deep understanding of Hagar’s unique trauma-informed recovery model.
“I am honored that the Board has given me the opportunity to lead the US operations. It is a critical time for Hagar to secure new donors and funding partnerships that will allow an expansion of Hagar’s work rebuilding broken lives. Hagar has a new 2017-2019 Strategic Plan and I want to ensure that we can deliver on those ambitious plans to support more survivors of abuse and exploitation,” says Nowlin. “It’s going to be a very busy 2017, connecting with our loyal donors and developing new funding opportunities.”
Mike comes to the role with extensive professional qualifications; he has a Master of Science in Social Administration from the Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio and a Bachelor Degree in Psychology & Sociology from Hope College-Holland, Michigan. He has completed certificate programs in Global Mental Health and Recovery from Harvard University, Human Services Management from the Ohio State University, and Leadership and Biblical Studies from Vineyard Leadership Institute.
Mike Nowlin will be transitioning from his Hagar Cambodia role to the Hagar USA position over the next eight weeks, taking up the Hagar USA role permanently from July 5, 2017.
