Hagar is a global leader in supporting those who have experienced trauma to heal, develop resilience, and lead full, productive lives. We call this trauma-informed care.

What is Trauma-Informed Care?

Untitled design (32)1                                                              Trauma informed care is an approach that draws on the strengths of the individual. When receiving trauma-informed care, the individual recovers within a community that is safe, and where those within it are well supported to empower them to heal. This approach creates opportunities for survivors to rebuild a sense of control and agency as they process what has happened to them and what it means for their lives.                                                                                                                                                                  How do we deliver Trauma-Informed Care?                              This approach is holistic; it addresses entire aspects of the client’s life. We don’t want the client to come in and have counseling sessions then go home where trauma may continue. Art therapy, family counseling, schooling, job training, legal support; Whatever needs to be done to build the client up to become whole and thrive in the world is the ultimate end goal in Hagar’s trauma-informed care approach.

Our goal is to support organizations to embed these principles in order to work effectively with the impact of trauma on staff and clients. We want to train other NGO’s in this holistic approach so that people Hagar cannot reach are healing. Help Hagar continue in lighting the way for people who have experienced trauma to become healed.
