In the chaos of displacement at the Thai-Cambodia border, women like Malina face impossible choices. Without support, desperation can force families into the hands of traffickers.
Now, there’s a lifeline.
When conflict reached her community, Malina had to run. She was nine months pregnant and hundreds of miles from safety. She traveled by motorbike over rough, unpaved roads to reach a makeshift camp for displaced people.
“I was close to giving birth, and I didn’t know where I would be safe.”
For Malina and thousands of other displaced people like her, the psychological trauma of sudden crisis compounds every risk.
There is fear, uncertainty, and isolation. These invisible wounds make vulnerable people even more susceptible to trafficking and abuse.
But Malina found help. And now, we’re scaling that help in a revolutionary way.
When Hagar joined government agencies and other nonprofits in Cambodia to deliver frontline aid in displacement camps, our teams started art therapy sessions with children.
The children’s drawings revealed disturbing imagery. It was visual evidence of trauma far deeper than what was said aloud. Displaced people carry wounds that won’t heal without professional help.
So, our Cambodia team is creating something urgent and innovative.
Working alongside local authorities and partner organizations, Hagar is launching an emergency hotline that displaced families can call to access:
At Hagar, every donation helps prevent exploitation and rebuild lives. We keep overheads low, follow global best practices, and are proud to be recognized by national charity regulators for our fiscal responsibility.
