A Father’s Dream for a Better Future

As a husband and father of three, Hùng (name + image changed for privacy) carried the same hope shared by millions of parents worldwide: to give his children a brighter, safer future. When an employment broker promised him a lucrative job overseas, it felt like the answer to his prayers. Determined to provide for his family, Hùng borrowed tens of thousands of dollars to cover the brokerage fees and signed the contract.

He could not have imagined that this decision would launch him into a nightmare of human trafficking.

A Journey of Exploitation

Instead of a secure job, Hùng was trafficked to Russia and then forced through six different European countries. His passport was stolen. He was beaten. He was even locked inside a shipping container. Ultimately, he was trafficked to the UK and forced to work on a cannabis farm.

Cut off from the outside world, he had no way to escape.

When the police eventually raided the farm, Hùng’s nightmare did not end. Misidentified as a criminal, he spent six months in detention before being recognized as a victim of human trafficking.

Restoring Life and Dignity

Because of the generosity of donors worldwide, this was not the end of Hùng’s story.

Through a partner organization in the UK, he was finally repatriated to Vietnam, where Hagar was waiting to welcome him to safety and hope.

With the support of Hagar’s trauma-informed care, Hùng began to reclaim his life. He received counseling, community support, and the tools he needed to find his footing again.

A Voice Against Exploitation

Today, Hùng works tirelessly to support his family and is an outspoken advocate against human trafficking. He shares his story to warn others about the false promises traffickers use to lure people into danger.

“I tell others one thing,” he says. “Going abroad is not always better.”
