Because of Hagar Supporters, 33 Children Stayed Safe During the U.S. Funding Freeze

A Crisis No Child Should Face

When news broke in January that U.S. foreign aid was being frozen it was more than a headline. For 33 children in Hagar’s care, all survivors of human trafficking and abuse, their healing journey was at risk. Their meals. Their schoolbooks. Their safe place to sleep.

Without urgent intervention, everything could have been taken from them overnight.

How Donors Stepped In

Because of compassionate donors like you, it didn’t happen.

Hagar’s global community of donors and supporters stepped in to fill the gap left by the U.S. aid freeze. It kept every single one of these 33 children safe in their family-based care placements.

  • No child was uprooted.
  • No one was returned to an unsafe environment.
  • No survivor lost their chance to heal.

Srey Keo’s Story of Hope

Srey Keo*, age 14, is one of those survivors. After being trafficked, she came to Hagar to begin the slow, painful process of restoration. Thanks to your support, she was able to stay in safe foster care even during the aid crisis.

In her own words:

“I always asked, why is my life like this? I blamed myself because no one loved me or cared for me and my parents didn’t protect me. But when I came to live with my foster mother, I felt happy and warm. Now, I can go to school and live in safety.”
