Aly was abandoned at birth. She grew up in a government shelter where she was malnourished, denied schooling, and abused throughout her childhood.
At 14, she was attacked and assaulted, then thrown out of the shelter. Still a child, but now pregnant and homeless, Aly survived on the streets.
Her despair was so deep she tried to end her life.
Eventually, a neighbor brought Aly to Hagar. She arrived scared of everyone. For the first two months, she hid in her room and cried. Hagar’s team kept showing up anyway.
What followed was not a single intervention. It was years of showing up: pregnancy support, trauma counseling, helping her find work, reminding her every day she had value and a reason to live.
Today, Aly confidently raises her daughter and mentors other survivors still in the dark.
