A Journey of the Heart: Meet Viet Anh, Hagar’s Director in Vietnam

Some people choose this work. For Viet Anh, it chose her.

She was studying business in her last year of university. On a hunch, she applied for an internship at an organization that helps children.

She had no idea then that that hunch would turn into a career.

But over the next 17 years, Viet Anh worked at some of the world’s most trusted organizations — World Vision, Save the Children, UNESCO, Orbis and the British Embassy in Hanoi. She worked on many causes, from education to stopping plastic waste. But one cause kept pulling her back: the fight to protect people from trafficking, violence, and abuse.

“The complexity of these issues is what truly excites me,” she says.

It’s because these problems don’t have simple answers, that Viet Anh began anti-trafficking work. She learned that real change for survivors rarely comes from just one program. It takes patience, teamwork, and people willing to stay for the long haul.

That’s what drew her to Hagar.

“The impact this work has on the lives of survivors is incredibly rewarding. Working at Hagar will help me grow my knowledge and skills and contribute to a more innovative organization.”

Viet Anh

As Country Director for Hagar Vietnam, Viet Anh brings a rare mix of skills: hands-on experience in project management, finance, and building strong organizations, plus real relationships with government partners built over almost 20 years. This is the kind of experience that turns good intentions into programs that change lives forever.

Ask her what grounds all of it, and she doesn’t point to a strategy or a system. She points to values.

“Respect, integrity, compassion, and excellence are values I hold in both my work and my personal life,” she says. “These values resonate strongly with Hagar’s mission.”

Every day, Viet Anh shows up at Hagar ready to give everything she’s learned to the people who need it most — survivors of trafficking and abuse who are still waiting for someone to fight for them.
