70 Afghan women are building sustainable livelihoods and achieving their dreams with Hagar’s support.
In Afghanistan, Hagar recently launched Hagar three new tailoring cooperatives!
The cooperatives are part of Hagar’s Restoring Lives Through Livelihood (RLL) project. The program aims to reduce the risk of trafficking and abuse among women by empowering them with sustainable economic opportunities and holistic support systems.
Over the next six months, 70 women will train in tailoring and garment design as well as business development! The hands-on training will give each woman the skills she needs to start her own business or find a good job.
Through the project, each woman will also have access to emotional and psychosocial support. Counsellors provide a safe space for each woman to address personal challenges and build resilience and confidence.
Last year, Lailuma attended Hagar’s tailoring cooperative program. She says:
“Before, I felt powerless and without hope. The challenges I faced seemed insurmountable. However, through Hagar, I’ve grown into someone I barely recognize from my past self. I’ve learned resilience, developed a strong sense of self-worth, and gained the skills to support myself and my family. I’ve become more confident in my abilities and more optimistic about the future.”
As each woman gains the skills and confidence through the training, the impact will ripple through communities and inspire change.
